KARACHI, Jan 7: A bench of Sindh High Court on Monday directed the DIG Karachi police to reinvestigate a rape case through an officer not below the rank of DSP and if found any injustice take stern action against first investigation officer of the case.
Justice Ashraf Leghari gave such directions while granting bail in sum of Rs0.1 million to a complainant turned accused Ms Rubina.
In September 2001, she lodged a complaint with Gulshan-i-Iqbal police against four accused Rehan, Shamsul Haq, Inam and Mufeez stating that they gang-raped her. Later, the police investigated the matter and booked her (complainant) as an accused under section 10(2) of the Zina Ordinance.
According to the prosecution, Rubina in her complaint alleged that on Sept 16, accused Rehan kidnapped and took her to a house in Rehmatia Colony, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, where three more accused raped her. She remained in their custody for nine days.
On Sept 25, she managed to flee and lodged an FIR with the Gulshan-i-Iqbal PS. The IO after recording her statement visited the place. The statements of neighbouring people disclosed that she lived with accused Rehan as her wife. Police after detailed investigation held her as accused and submitted challan before court of case under section 10(2) of Zina Ordinance.—PPI
