TIMERGARA: Lower Dir Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Saleem Akram on Friday paid a surprise visit to the district jail Timergara and examined the barracks and different units of the prison.

He met with the prisoners and checked the quality and standard of food and water being served to the inmates.

He was informed that the jail was overcrowded as it had more than 600 prisoners instead of 250.

The jail officials also pointed out that CCTV cameras installed in the jail had long been out of order.

The DC set free two prisoners involved in minor cases. Some of the inmates complained about delay in hearing of their cases.

The DC promised to provide the jail hospital with adequate medicines and directed the local administration to supply warm blankets, quilts, mats and sports equipment to the jail.
