KARACHI: Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has said suspended SP Rao Anwar cannot escape arrest and he will soon be behind bars.

He stated this while talking to the media after launching European Union-assisted ‘Programme for Improved Nutrition in Sindh’ at a hotel on Tuesday.

When asked about they delay in issuance of his (Rao’s) suspension order, the chief minister said the action was taken after receiving an inquiry committee’s report.

‘All other provincial governments and agencies have been requested to help’

“The police are working and all other provincial governments and agencies have been requested to help,” he added. About health facilities in the province, he said they were striving hard to help the poor.

“Our Expanded Programme on Immunisation and other measures have shown considerable progress and we are working to improve them further,” he added, recalling that his government had upgraded 280 basic health units.

Earlier, addressing the ceremony, Mr Shah thanked the EU and all other development partners for joining hands with the Sindh government.

“I announce it regretfully that more than 48 per cent of children in Sindh suffer stunted growth and about 15 per cent are malnourished.

“Our government with the help of World Bank has prepared an accelerated action plan called ‘Sehatmand Sindh’ for reduction of stunted growth and malnutrition. About Rs6.8 billion will be spent on it during the next five years.

“About Rs4 billion will be spent on Nutrition Support Programme with the assistance of the World Bank in nine districts of the province,” the CM said.

He added the World Food Programme was addressing malnutrition in children and women in Sindh through a $48 million programme.

“The Programme for Improving Nutrition in Sindh will cover 10 districts of the province with an outlay of 68.25 million euros, out of which the EU has also pledged a sum of 60 million euros.”
