KOHAT: Speakers at a function here on Monday stressed close coordination between the police and the bar for providing cheap and speedy justice to the litigants.

The function was organised in honour of DPO Abbas Majeed Marwat who had been invited to the bar to discuss issues of mutual interest.

President of Kohat District Bar Association Javed Panji, member Peshawar Bar Council Fawad Hussain, former president Aamad Azam, senior lawyers Shoeb Mohammad, Aman Khattak, Malik Hamad and Tariq Khattak were among those who attended the function.

On the occasion, Javed Panji pointed out problems pertaining to presence of unregistered Afghan refugees, traffic mess, beggary, presentation of record timely to them of under-trial cases, wheelie, following of route permit and underage driving needed early resolution.

The DPO said a traffic management and engineering plan with the mutual understanding of army, civil and district administration was on the anvil and the people would soon see positive change on the roads. He said the detective foot constables had been issued job descriptions to serve summons and submit replies to the courts timely.

He urged the lawyers to play their role in concluding piles of civil and criminal cases by ensuring punishment to the aggressor and justice to the victim.

MISSING BOY HANDED OVER TO FAMILY: The local police handed over a missing six-year-old boy to its family in Peshawar on Monday.

In a statement, the police said a boy, Yasir, had reached Lachi tehsil of Kohat by a passenger van and was handed over to the police by the passengers.

The police informed the Peshawar control room and learnt a report of missing boy had been registered there.

It was found that one Hakeem residing in Peshawar as member of a displaced family of Malik Din Khel tribe of Khyber Agency had reported his son as missing. Yasir had embarked on a Kohat-bound van by mistake after losing his family.
