ISLAMABAD, May 8: Muhammad Munir on Sunday completed a magnificent victory, winning the professional title in the President of Pakistan Open gold medal golf championship at the Islamabad Golf Club. With a final round of 71, Munir aggregated 13 under par 203 over three days of exciting competition in which he led from start to finish.

The Islamabad Club golfer, who had rounds of 66 each on the first two days could not however match those on the final day because of unfriendly weather that created problems for him in putting.

Although he birdied thrice he had two bogeys as he scored 36 on the front nine and 35 while coming back.

Five stroke adrift in second place was another local man, M. Shabbir Iqbal who had the day’s best round of four under 68 along with Shahid Javed. He aggregated eight under 208.

Javed Inyat finished third with a final round of par 72 for an aggregate of 211 in three days.

Meanwhile in the amateur net category, Zeeshan Orakzai won the gold medal defeating Inyatullah Yousafzai in a playoff on the first hole after both had ended up tied on 147 net over two rounds.

Saturday’s second round had to be cancelled because of rain.

In the playoff Zeeshan played par while Inyatullah went one over.

Jamila Jabbar won the ladies gross contest with a score of 83 while Heidi Schirmer came in second scoring 86. Faakeha Ambreen was the winner of the ladies net gold medal carding net 70 with Eun Kyoung Sung being the runner-up.

The ladies competition had to be cut down to one round after Saturday’s cancellation of the opening round.
