COLOMBO, May 8: A spokeswoman for the Norwegian embassy in Colombo said on Friday that the ambassador had sought a meeting with Sri Lankan officials to reply to allegations levelled by a member of the ruling coalition that the embassy had developed secret links with the Tamil Tigers (LTTE). Wimal Weerawanse, a spokesman for the ruling alliance, alleged in the parliament last week that the Norwegian embassy was siding with the LTTE. Mr Weerawanse was reacting to newspaper reports that a sister organization of the LTTE had been found using a vehicle belonging to the Norwegian embassy. The embassy spokeswoman said however that the government had not responded to the request for a meeting between Lankan officials and the ambassador.
