Padmaavat will release across the country, rules Supreme Court of India
The Supreme Court of India gets the final word in Padmaavat's release.
The Deepika Padukone starrer which was banned in four states Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh earlier this week, will now see a release across India.
According to latest reports, the Supreme Court has ruled that states cannot ban films. "If states are banning a film, then it is destroying the federal structure. States can't touch the content of a film. If somebody has a problem, then they can approach appellate tribunal for relief," argued a senior lawyer Harish Salve representing Padmaavat.

On Wednesday, the producers of Padmaavat had moved the SC to convince the states to withdraw the ban and questioned the right of these four state governments to ban the film outright when the apex court has already clarified that the film's screening can only be suspended in a particular area if there is law and order situation developing.
The film's cast has also been told not to promote the film in order to "avoid controversy".
Padmavaat's due to release on January 25.
