NAWABSHAH: Mr Enver Adil, Family Planning Commissioner of Pakistan, on Monday [Jan 8] called upon the people to practise family planning because if the population continued to increase at the present pace, all efforts of the present regime to make the country a welfare state would be in vain.

The Commissioner was addressing the Basic Democrats, district officials and a cross section of the people. He said the cardinal objective of the present regime is to raise the standard of living of the people of Pakistan and President Ayub is keen to see his people prosperous.

But at the same time the Government is well aware of the grave fact that our present available resources would not withstand if the present rate of population explosion remained unchecked. “It is clearly indicated from the fact that a person having 500 acres of land 20 years back is now in possession of 25 acres of land only and in the next ten years, if population continued to increase at present pace, his present holding would surely be further reduced.”

Mr Enver Adil said like a sane father who would always like to see his children happy, President Ayub has induced family planning for the welfare of the future generation and added that had the present Government been a regime of self-seekers it would not have cared so much for the present and future generations.
