LAHORE: Senior police officers have failed to take action against the Naseerabad police officials who nominated a four-year-old boy in a case of “gambling and obstructing government servants in discharge of public functions”.

The boy’s uncle moved court on Wednesday to fight what he said a fake case against him, his nephew and his (complainant’s) father. He alleged that policemen had registered a case upon his refusal to pay bribe.

The complainant said the Naseerabad police had picked him up from a snooker club on Dec 4 after he refused to pay Rs3,000 to ASI Atif Sultan and other police officials. His nephew and father were also arrested for trying to convince police not to take him away, he said. The child, however, got pre-arrest bail from court.

DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf directed the Model Town SP to probe the matter after CCPO Amin Wains took notice. The SP failed to complete the inquiry.

He told Dawn the delay in probing the issue was due to anomaly in documents. He said police in the FIR had mentioned Husain as the father of Faizan, whereas in the bail documents the father’s name was mentioned as Anwar.
