ISLAMABAD: In order to facilitate the Pakistani skiers who will be competing at next year’s Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, a Korean firm donated ski equipment for the country federation here on Tuesday.

The equipment was handed over to the Ski Federation of Pakistan through the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) by the Korea East Power Company.

According to PSB spokesman Azam Dar, under a MoU between the Korean company and PSB, the company was required to donate skiing kits and shoes, worth Rs1 million for the Pakistani skiers.

“The company fulfilled its commitments by providing equipment to us today,” he said.

Air Commodore Shahid Nadeem, secretary general of Ski Federation of Pakistan, Min Byeong Soo, representative of the Korean company, Syed Habib Shah, PSB’s deputy director general (technical) attended the handing over ceremony at the Pakistan Sports Complex.

Speaking on the occasion, Air Commodore Shahid thanked the Korean company representative and extended him invitation to witness next month’s international ski races at Naltar.

He said that the federation is constantly putting efforts to promote winter sports in Pakistan by improving its infrastructure and encouraging young people to take up the adventurous game.

“Skiing is a very audacious sport which is very popular in northern areas of Pakistan,” said Habib, while adding that the PSB has been endeavouring to give all the facilities and training to sportspersons to produce skiers of international quality.
