HYDERABAD, Oct 20: A fire broke out at the Jamshoro thermal power station on Sunday evening, affecting the generation of power.
The fire, caused by a short circuit, engulfed the station’s two power-generating units. Cables and panels were gutted.
The chief engineer of the power station told this correspondent on the telephone that the loss was being assessed.
He said one unit, which was functioning, was also closed as a safety measure.
He said the thermal power station would be made operational by Wednesday.
APP ADDS FROM LAHORE: On receiving information about the fire, the general manager (Thermal) immediately left for Hyderabad by air. The rehabilitation work is being carried out under his supervision.
An inquiry committee, headed by Senior Chief Engineer Sharif Ansari, has also been constituted by the authority concerned to find out the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage. He has also been asked to fix responsibility for the incident.
