No clue to killers of jewellers

LAHORE, Aug 28: Police have failed to find any clue to the killing of two jewellers.

Abid Mahmood and Muhammad Attique were shot dead in a Rs 4.2 million gold robbery on Lawarance Road in Civil Lines in broad daylight on Tuesday.

Sources in police investigation wing say the police had so far interrogated over three dozen people but to no avail. Most of the suspects, now at liberty, had to go through the traditional police ways of investigation. Some of them, including two watchmen, were also subjected to torture.

Sources say the investigators did trace the registration number of the motorcycle used by the robbers, but it, too, has not helped them identify the accused so far. It is not yet clear whether the registration number was fake.

Meanwhile, provincial minister Arshad Lodhi and senior police officers visited the families of the slain jewellers.

A delegation of traders met city police chief Khwaja Khalid Farooq at his office and expressed their concern over the increasing crime.

Assuring full security to the traders, the police chief said the security arrangements could be improved in markets with the mutual consultation of businessmen. He directed all divisional SPs to hold meetings with traders’ organisations in their respective areas and take effective steps for resolving their problems. He asked the traders to seek police assistance while making large transactions.
