MADRID: Eibar routed 10-man Real Betis 5-0 in La Liga on Monday, ending an eight-match winless streak in all competitions.

Eibar hadn’t won since Septemver 15 and had lost six of their eight matches since then.

The hosts got on the board with an own goal by Betis defender Jordi Amat just six minutes in, and midfielder Gonzalo Escalante scored with a header near halftime.

Striker Charles Dias scored twice in the second half, and Sergi Enrich closed the scoring in front of less than 5,000 fans at Ipurua Stadium.

Betis played with 10 men from the 55th as Aissa Mandi was red-carded for the foul that prompted a penalty kick converted by Dias.

Eibar remained 17th in the 20-team standings, just outside the relegation zone. Betis, winless in three matches, dropped to ninth place.


Two late goals help Bologna win at Verona

VERONA: Bologna scored two late goals for a 3-2 comeback win at promoted Hellas Verona on Monday to end a four-match losing streak in Serie A.

Substitute Orji Okwonkwo equalised with a header in the 74th and Godfred Donsah scored the winner with a long, powerful effort from beyond the area two minutes later.

Former Italy winger Alessio Cerci opened the scoring at Bentegodi Stadium for Verona. Less than 10 minutes later, Mattia Destro, another former Italy forward, equalised for Bologna.

Former Juventus fullback Martin Caceres put Verona ahead shortly after the half-hour mark with a rebound of his own header.

Bologna moved up to 10th while Verona remained second from the bottom after their fifth consecutive loss.
