As a woman, as an artist, I feel hurt and angry: Deepika on Padmavati controversy

The Bollywood actress has been threatened by a Rajasthani fringe group due to her role as the Rajput queen in Padmavati

Sanjay Leela's upcoming film Padmavati has caused an outrage among many and Deepika Padukone is deeply upset by it all.

The period drama, which is based on a fictionalised account of the legendary Rani Padmini's life, has elicited a strong reaction from certain parties who believe that the film will tarnish the Rajput queen's image - and their latest target is Deepika.

Rajasthani fringe group Karni Sena has threatened to physically harm the actress - following which Mumbai Police have given the Padmavati actress special security.

"As a woman, as an artiste, as someone who has worked and given two years of my life to this movie, I feel hurt, I feel angry, but I also think it is extremely funny that people are reacting like this to a film. I am feeling so many emotions at this point," Deepika said in an interview.

She admitted that the controversy has been difficult to digest and the response, baffling.

"There is fraction out there who is doing what it is. But as I said, I have full faith in the judicial system of our country. I know no wrong will be done."

Having worked on the film for two years, Deepika admits to having had made many sacrifices. "When you work on a film like Padmavati, it deserves that kind of time."

"There are a lot of sacrifices there too. It is the sacrifice of giving up other films, it is the sacrifice of so many things. It is the sacrifice of giving up a social life; of family time. But when I see the result it is all worth it. For me it has never been about how films of mine will release in a year. Those films must be meaningful and they must impact."

Understandable, Deepika. It must hurt you and others. The fringe group should be punished for making threats. Those who don't like, need not watch the film.

Increasing Religious politics by BJP is resulting in increase in intolerance and hatred for minorities, all to gain majority votes. This shows cunning humans can use religious sensitivity of masses to their political advantage.

Deepika the character is a historical figure who will be remembered long after you are gone. Also let's accept that artistic liberties were taken with history. So why not stretch the liberties further and call your character in movie Dumbolini and Ranveer as Kijlino. No one's sentiments are hurt and you can check your talent quotient if acting along brings viewers to theatre.

Some indians can be as biased and zealots and viciously wrong - like people from all other nations. There are stupid b------s everywhere. It is important therefore, that the security keep a close eye on any developments, and take preventive action, to prevent any illegal threats or possible assaults. This is a very sad development, and must never be allowed. Freedom in art and expression must never be jeopardized, Never.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali needs to learn not to play with sentiments of people. Either make only a fictional movie or stay strictly with the historical script. Let us go back to Devdas based on the 1917 Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel. How could we imagine to see a merchant family girl dance along side a twaif. a middle class Bengali merchant family

She is not an artist. She is an artisan. There is a difference. Like between a stone mason and a sculpture,, between a house painter and artist painter, between a typist and a poet. she is there for earning money in the name of art. Pure hyopcrite and fame seeker.

Deepika is unhappy as she made a mistake doing this film. Its going to flop now and will hurt her career. She should have done the other films she sacrificed.

If there was a romantic angle shown between Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji, I would have supported Karni Sena up to a certain extend (Not threatening to harm or kill any body) But since there is no such scene involved, it is meaningless to protest or threaten the director or the artists. History is not distorted in the film
