THE decision by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to attend to public complaints is a welcome step. So far the bureau mostly attended to political corruption cases but has now realised the need to give time to the common man’s complaints. This should not be limited to the Islamabad head office only.
All regional offices need to start hearing complaints to facilitate the common man. Like the Ombudsman offices, NAB should also open its offices in cities as well as in rural areas.
A once-a-week opportunity for hearing complaints will not be enough to resolve corruption issues in a big city like Karachi. A daily hearing in various districts of Karachi or other cities might bring some help to victims of various kinds of financial corruption, land grabbing, etc.
