PESHAWAR: PML-N provincial youth wing has demanded of the central leadership to take notice of the declining popularity of the party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and asked it to form a committee to review performance of provincial president Amir Muqam.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz youth wing provincial president Mian Rashid urged the party’s top leadership to constitute a high-level committee to probe if the decisions taken by Mr Muqam were in accordance with the ground realities or not.

He said that PML-N president Nawaz Sharif had appointed Mr Muqam as acting president of the party in KP a few months ago and assigned him the task to bring back the disgruntled workers into the party folds.

He regretted that the party’s popularity was fast declining with each passing day as a number of provincial activists and workers in different districts had joined other political parties.

He said that many more were ready to part ways with PML-N, which was a matter of concern for them.

The youth wing president said that the party’s position in the recent by-polls on NA-4, Peshawar, had exposed the poor performance of provincial chief Amir Muqam. He said that a group of inexperienced people had occupied the party by sidelining ideological workers.

He said that instead of taking the ideological workers and youth into confidence Mr Muqam was in the habit of giving warnings of expelling them from the party.

Accompanied by other youth wing office-bearers, Mr Rashid said that the youth wing had accepted Mr Muqam as acting provincial president, but they would no more tolerate his dictatorial mindset and decisions.

He said that the provincial chief lacked experience about organisational matters and the workers were not ready to accept the harsh attitude he had learnt from Pervez Musharraf.
