KARACHI, Aug 27: A labourer was killed allegedly by his room-mate in Lyari on Wednesday.
Police said that the victim, Mohammad Shabbir, 19, shared a room in KDA Flats on Mauripur Road with one, Mohammad Karim. They indulged in a quarrel during which Karim allegedly slit Shabbir’s throat and escaped.
Their neighbours, sensing some foul play, informed police who broke open the door of the room and found Shabbir’s body lying in a pool of blood inside.
The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for postmortem examination, police added.
ACCIDENT: A grocer came under the wheels of a minibus while he was asleep close to the vehicle near New Sabzi Mandi on Wednesday.
The parked minibus (PE-2954), police said, was started by its conductor who, after cleaning it up, applied reverse gear and tried to back it without realizing that someone was asleep close to one of the wheels. Body of the unidentified victim was, later, shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem examination, police added.
The conductor has been arrested.
ROBBERY: A man was injured while successfully resisting a robbery, but was deprived of Rs8,000 by police who had taken him to a hospital on Wednesday.
Abdul Qayoom, 35, owner of a makeshift eating house, was carrying Rs8,000 in his pocket. He was intercepted by two armed men near Vita Chowrangi but he raised hue and cry and offered resistance. The armed men shot at him and escaped without robbing him. He suffered a bullet wound.
A police mobile of the Korangi police station arrived at the scene, apparently to his rescue, and took him to a hospital. On the way, the police took out money from his pocket and left the victim at the Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre, hospital sources quoting the Abdul Qayoom said.
During treatment, the victim gave statement to the medico-legal officer that the two policemen deprived him of his money, the sources added.
LOOTED: Burglars broke into the house of the Naib Nazim of Korangi Town, falling in the limits of the Korangi Industrial Area police station.
Police said that unknown armed men barged into the house of Aurangzeb Haider and held the inmates hostage.
They decamped with about Rs100,000 cash, gold ornaments and a TV set and his official car.
