GUJRANWALA, Aug 26: The District Bar Association announced on Tuesday that none of its members would pursue the Sialkot jail incident accused’s case at an anti-terrorism court.

However, the association set up a committee comprising senior lawyers to pursue the case of complainant, senior civil judge, at the same court.

The announcement was made at a meeting of the lawyers presided over by District Bar President Ilyas Rehan here on Tuesday. The participants passed a unanimous resolution against the suspects of the jail tragedy, deciding that no member of the local Bar would pursue the case of the accused at an ATC. They demanded that disciplinary action should be taken against the lawyers going against the decision.

The special committee constituted to take up the case of Sialkot’s senior civil judge Muhammad Yousaf Aujala, comprises Muhammad Saeed Bhutta, Muhammad Ishaq Aulakh, Chaudhry Nisar Ahmad, Javed Ahmad Paul, Malik Abdul Basit, Ahmad Ramay, Malik Shaukat Awan, Sardar Muhammad Arif, Zahid Nazir and Ansar Mahmood Sheikh.

Meanwhile, the DBA condoled the death of Sheikh Amanullah, a former Bar president.

Nuke medical centre: The Punjab health department has approved the construction of a nuclear medical centre in Nandipur on the Sialkot Road at the cost of Rs300 million.

This was stated by Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) president Dr Ishtiaq Safdar Tarar at a meeting here on Tuesday.

He said the government would provide six acres of land for the centre while machinery and equipments would be provided by the energy commission.

He said the PMA and other organizations would donate Rs20 million for the purpose.

Meanwhile, the district development committee approved 16 development projects besides trauma centre at a meeting held here on Tuesday.

The meeting was presided over by the DCO.

The meeting was told that Rs54 million have been allocated for the projects and Rs19 million for trauma centre.
