ISLAMABAD, Aug 26: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration will not be able to initiate any new project in the current fiscal year since the government has so far not released any development funds under Khushhal Pakistan Programme (KPP), a source told Dawn on Monday.

“Even in case of release of funds by the government, the ICT administration cannot launch any new project as the amount will be spent on the ongoing works started in the last financial year,” the source said.

He said the government had allocated Rs500 million for development schemes under the KPP for the fiscal year 2002-2003. However, the ICT administration received Rs120 million, while it had proposed Rs350 million projects for the last year.

The ICT administration could not complete all the projects with the amount released by the government under the KPP, therefore the remaining projects would be executed in the current financial year, the source said.

Some projects of roads, streets and water supply have been stopped in various areas due to financial constraints. The residents of these areas have started approaching the ICT officials, demanding early completion of suspended projects.

An official of the ICT administration said, earlier, Islamabad was ignored by the government while allocating funds for all provinces under the KPP. But, the district administration requested the government for the allocation, and the chief executive secretariat allocated Rs120 million for the capital last year.

For the current fiscal year, no fund has so far been allocated by the government under the KPP, the official confirmed.
