KARACHI: Dr Ali Khusro passes away

KARACHI, Aug 26: Dr Ali Mohammad Khusro, a former vice- chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, died on Sunday in New Delhi, according to family sources here. He was 78.

Born in Hyderabad, Deccan, Dr Khusro studied at Nizam’s College, Hyderabad, and obtained a PhD from Leeds University. He returned to Hyderabad to teach at Osmania University.

During Mrs Gandhi’s first term as prime minister, Dr Khusro served as vice-chairman of the planning commission and was also India’s ambassador in West Germany.

He leaves behind a wife and daughter.
