UPPER DIR: Two minor girls were burnt to death after a fire gutted their house in far flung Doog Darra area of Upper Dir district, police said on Sunday.

Sheringal police station house officer said that the family had lit a fire to heat up the room when it spread and engulfed the two-storey wooden house.

As a result, two girls — Saima Bibi, 12, and Madeha, 8 — daughters of Hidyatullah Khan, were burnt to death while they were asleep.

The house was reduced to ashes. The locals after hectic efforts controlled the fire and prevented it from spreading to adjacent houses.

Doog Dara is located 60 kilometres from the district headquarters, Dir, due to which the fire brigade could not reach there on time.
