BADIN, Aug 25: Two people were injured and 50 houses collapsed and 18 cattlehead perished as heavy rain, coupled with storm, lashed Badin and its surrounding areas on Monday.

The rain started on Sunday and continued intermittently for over 20 hours, disrupting normal life in the city.

The rain caused collapse of electricity supply and sewerage systems.

The two persons were injured in the Shafi Mohammad Khan Jamali village, Khoski Union Council, where houses of Photo Meghwar, Chotho Kolhi, Bukhshan Jamali, Mohammad Hassan Jamali and Rasool Bukhsh Jamali collapsed.

The district administration has announced that schools would remain closed in the district till Aug 31. The school buildings are being used as relief camps.

The rain water also inundated over 150 schools in the district.

Residents of the coastal belt, including Bukhsho Dero, Golo Manidhro Behdmi, Mithi-3, Mitho Khan Chandio and Sheikhani Ghari areas, were shifted to safer places in vehicles provided by the district administration.

Several people of coastal villages have taken shelter at government buildings.

Massive damages to houses and other structures were reported from different areas of Badin, Tando Bago and Shaheed Fazil Rahu talukas.

District Nazim Kamal Khan Chang and district relief committee member Ashfaq Ahmad Memon visited the rain-affected areas and made arrangements for shifting of the people.

Mr Chang also asked the Nazims of the union councils of his district to rush to their areas and help the people.

Clouds hovered over the sky the whole day.

THATTA: The district received heavy rain on Monday, multiplying miseries of the people, particularly of those living in low-lying areas.
