GEORGE Orwell’s novel Nineteen Eighty-Four is full of fear. In case of any wrongdoings, they could be vapourised. Unfortunately, the same is taking place in Karachi. A boy comes from nowhere and stabs whoever he wants. Mostly he targets girls, but only God knows what his purpose is.

The law-enforcement agencies do not know who this person is and why he is doing this. This not only creates fear among women but also traumatises them. Many parents now escort their daughters to schools. The government should take up the matter seriously so that women can go out or walk freely.

WITH reports appearing at intervals about knife attacks in Karachi, people feel insecure. The killer is either mentally sick or shrewd enough to frighten women enough to force them to confine themselves to the four walls of their houses.

Thus women will stop going out and with such a situation half of society will be rendered usleless and things will start moving backward.

It is the government’s duty to nip the evil in the bud.
