FAISALABAD, Aug 24: Provincial Communication and Works Minister Chaudhry Zaheeruddin Khan has said the construction of Kalabagh dam is in the national interest which will provide a solid foundation for the country’s economic growth.
Talking to newsmen here on Sunday, he said President Pervez Musharraf had always given importance to public welfare projects.
He said that by announcing the construction of Kalabagh dam, President Musharraf had taken a step towards national progress and prosperity which would also ensure the generation of cheap electricity.
The minister said the government believed in the provincial autonomy, solidarity of federation and complete harmony among the provinces. The construction of Kalabagh dam was a vital decision which would benefit all the provinces, he said.
The completion of the Kalabagh project would certainly bring a visible change in the national economy, agriculture, irrigation and power-generation sectors, he added.
NEW CAMPUS: A master plan amounting to Rs1,800 million has been chalked out for the construction of a new campus and renovation of the old building of the GC University.
This was stated by GC University Faisalabad Vice-Chancellor Asif Iqbal while talking to newsmen here on Sunday. He said the master plan would be completed in phases while the work on this gigantic project would be taken in hand by next month.
He said the present campus would be modernized and renovated with an expenditure of Rs91 million for which the negotiations were in the final stage with the Nespak. The formal work on the project would be started after the completion of a survey by Nespak engineers, he said.
He said the construction work would start in the last month of this year and the project would be completed within 18 months. At least Rs200 million would be spent on the second phase of the project in which new blocks would be constructed on the present site of the University.
Similarly, he revealed that Rs1,500 million had been allocated for the construction of the new campus for which three sites were under consideration.
