MIRPURKHAS, Aug 24: A sub-engineer and a Darogha (gatekeeper) of the irrigation Sindhri sub-division were suspended and over 30 tampered modules of the Doso distributary were sealed on Saturday.

There were complaints of stealing irrigation water through these modules in connivance with the irrigation officials. The executive engineer, Mithrao, Faiz Mohammad Memon, conducted raids along the Doso distributary and found thirty modules tampered with.

He suspended sub-engineer Abdul Aleem Ansari and Darogha Saleh Maher. Ali Dino and Mohammad Bux Khoso were appointed as sub-engineer and Darogha, respectively.

The official also sealed the watercourses and directed the SDO to lodge a case of water theft against growers.

DEMO: Dozens of Daroghas and their deputies staged a protest demonstration outside the office of director Nara canal area water board here on Saturday.

The union president, Mubarak Chandio, general secretary, Haider Bux Gujjo, Taj Mohammad Mangrio and Rasool Bux Khoso lamented that the government had not provided gauges of distributaries.

They said their salaries had been withheld at the behest of office-bearers of farmer organizations (FOs) and even transfers/postings were being made by them.

They suggested release of water in distributaries as per their design and appointment of able men in place of retired employees. The said irrigation staff should not be transferred at the recommendation of chairmen of FOs, salaries be provided through treasury office every month.

These also demanded reinstatement of the sacked Darogha.

ANIMAL HUSBANDRY: An animal husbandry camp was held in the Mohsin Raza Farm in union council Kherao, Mirpurkhas Taluka, by the animal husbandry department to provide treatment to cattle.

According to a press release about 1,800 cattle were given injections.
