LAHORE: Two minor children were killed while their parents were injured when a speeding truck rammed into their car at Babu Sabu Interchange on Sunday.

Police said Dr Adil Chatha, his wife Dr Rabia and sons Rehan, 7, and Saim, 11, were going to Sheikhupura by a car. The family had stopped their car at the Babu Sabu Interchange when a speeding truck hit them. All the family members suffered critical injuries and were taken to Jinnah Hospital where Rehan and Saim died.

Meanwhile, the police impounded the truck, arrested its driver and registered a case against him.

The police said the incident had taken place because the brakes of the truck had failed and it rammed into the car. Bodies of the children were handed over to the family after legal formalities.

According to Rescue 1122 data, 39,400 road accidents had taken place in the provincial capital during the last 10 months, resulting in death of 335 people. More than 21,000 motorcyclists were the victims of these accidents.
