KARACHI, Aug 24: The Majlis-i-Amal staged a rally on Sunday to oppose sending Pakistani troops to Iraq.
The rally was organized outside the Karachi Press club.
Speaking at the rally, MMA MPA Yunus Barai alleged that Gen Pervez Musharraf was planning to send troops to Iraq, without parliament’s approval, for providing protection to the Americans who were being confronted by the Iraqi people.
The MMA leaders, Moulana Khan Mohammad Rabbani, Mohammad Muslim and Hafiz Naeemur Rahman and others spoke on the occasion. Protesters, who were carrying placards against sending troops to Iraq, also chanted slogans against American unilateralism.
Mr Barai said Pakistani troops were not mercenaries and sending them to Iraq would not be acceptable for the people, who, he claimed, would dislodge the rulers soon.
Mr Rabbani deplored anti-Muslim tirade in the Western media, which was oblivious of Israeli and Indian terrorism against Palestinians and Kashmiris.
Participants declared Bush administration as terrorist and said that even if the troops were sent on the call of the UN, the people would not accept it.
KILLINGS: Provincial leadership of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal has expressed grave concern over deteriorating law and order situation in Sindh and criticized the government for mismanagement in relief committees for the rain-affected people.
An MMA delegation, led by its parliamentary leader Moulana Mohammad Umar Sadiq, conveyed its concern to the Sindh chief minister.
The delegation was of the view that relief committees, constituted on political considerations, were engaged in corruption and the relief was not being provided to the people.
They also deplored killing of five brothers and Dr Ibne Hassan and Dr Shoaib in Karachi and demanded arrest of the culprits.
Meanwhile, the MMA leaders, JUP’s senior vice president, Shah Faridul Haq, MMA Karachi president Hafiz Mohammad Taqi and PML(N) senior vice president Mian Ijaz Shafi have flayed the “artificial” surge in Karachi Stock Exchange index.
They were of the view that the KSE was not reflective of the real health of country’s economy.
