TOBA TEK SINGH: A judicial magistrate granted the police four-day physical remand of an accused in Rs9m scam case on Thursday.

The city police had registered the case on Oct 12 against Amanat Ali Gujjar of Chak 543-GB, Samundri (Faisalabad), on complaint of his former wife Sajida Perveen of Chak 328-JB of Toba Tek Singh. In the FIR, Sajida said she was already a divorcee and mother of three.

She was residing with her parent’s house, being their sole offspring, when Amanat proposed to her, claiming that he was unmarried. After she contracted marriage with Amanat, he suggested to her that if she sold her inherited farmland at Chak 328-JB, he would arrange purchase of manifold area of farmland in Samundri.

Sajida sold out her farmland and ornaments and gave Amanat Rs9m for purchasing land in Samundri.

In the meantime, it transpired that Amanat had already got two other wives. At this, differences developed between Sajida and Amanat who not only divorced her but also disappeared along with Rs9m.

The police arrested Amanat from Samundri and produced him before Judicial Magistrate Mudassar Hayat. They prayed to the court to grant them custody of the accused for four days for recovery of Rs9m from him.

KILLED: A young woman was allegedly killed by her husband and his three brothers over a domestic dispute at Chak 188-GB of Rajana.

Complainant Mashal Khan Baloch told Rajana police his daughter, Shazia Bibi, mother of an eight-month-old, was residing with him due to differences with her husband, Shahbaz Ahmad. He said Shahbaz and his brothers came to his house on Wednesday and took Shazia to their house after reconciliation. On Thursday, they again quarreled with her and tortured her to death with clubs.

INJURED: Robbers injured a trader on resistance and snatched Rs1.1m from him on the Rajana-Pirmahal road.

Police said Rajana grain market commission agent Khawar Iqbal going to Rajana from Chak 288-GB on a motorcycle when three armed men intercepted him. When he offered them resistance, they opened fire on him and critically wounded him before snatching Rs1.1m from him.
