BAHAWALPUR: A high-level meeting here on Thursday discussed arrangements for next year’s annual mega sports event of Cholistan jeep rally.

The meeting, with Senator Saood Majid Chadhury in the chair, was attended by 15 departments, including Cholistan Development Authority, Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab and police.

The meeting underlined the need for strict security measures during the national event likely to be participated in by about 150 jeep owners and drivers including some foreign teams.

According to an official release, under the tentative programme the three-day jeep rally was proposed to be staged by mid February preferably from Feb 15 to 17 in two stages in the Cholistan desert touching boundaries of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan.

The release said CDA Managing Director Waseem Anwar would be the focal person for the rally, which would cover a distance of about 500 kms in two stages.

The first stage would comprise travelling around Derawar Fort to desert area in Rahim Yar Khan while the second round would consist of Derwar Fort and Fort Abbas side of the Bahawalnagar district. The meeting decided to continue holding briefing sessions periodically till the finalisation of the programme.

POLICE UNIFORM: The district police on Thursday began the distribution of new [olive green] uniform among the police personnel.

According to police sources, the uniform will be given to 2,375 employees in the first phase.
