KARACHI, Aug 23: The Inspection-cum-Standing Committee to monitor prison affairs, constituted by the Sindh Ombudsman, will visit six central and district jails of the province from Aug 25 to Sept 4.
The committee consists of the secretary to the Ombudsman secretariat, Aijaz Hussain Kazi as chairman, two advisors of the ombudsman secretariat and Zafar Ali Khan Sherwani, district & sessions judge, Karachi central.
The committee shall visit the Karachi central jail on Aug 25, the women and juvenile jail in Malir on Aug 26, the Hyderabad central jail on Aug 27, the Nawabshah district jail on Aug 28, the Sukkur central jail on Sept 3 and the Khairpur central jail on Sept 4.
The committee has been specifically authorized to generally make such investigations as may in its considered view result in inducting reforms both on a short-term and long-term basis, in jail administration, an official handout said.
It has invited suggestions from members of all district judicial hierarchy, office-bearers of the bar associations, citizens and NGOs. The suggestions, recommendations and specific individual complaints may be sent directly in a sealed cover to the secretary, Sindh Ombudsman secretariat, Kamal Atta Turk Road, Karachi, in case of matters pertaining to the prisons located in Karachi. Those concerning other districts may also be sent care of directors of the regional offices of the Sindh Ombudsman located in Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur and Larkana latest by Sept 5. — PPI
