ISLAMABAD, Aug 23: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) is considering to merge all three adjudication collectorates of customs, sales tax and central excise, Karachi into a single collectorate to facilitate taxpayers as part of the re- structuring of the tax administration.

A senior official in the re-structuring wing of the CBR told Dawn on Saturday that currently the visiting World Bank pre- appraisal team was reviewing the modalities and functioning of the proposed model collectorate.

The World Bank would provide financial assistance for the establishment of the proposed collectorate by merging all the three adjudication collectorates, said the official.

According to the official, the tax authorities are proposing the building of collectorate of sales tax (East), Karachi for the purpose. The government has already merged and shifted the East and West collectorates of sales tax into the new building of sales tax model house.

With the merging of collectorates, the official said all cases would be adjudicated under a single roof which would not only save the time but also facilitate the taxpayers.

The proposal of merging of three adjudication collectorate was taken following the observation that taxpayers were facing problems in filing cases and have to appear before three different collectorates.
