Something as simple as handwashing with soap can save lives.

This is especially true for Pakistan, where every year around 53,000 children die from preventable diseases like diarrhoea.

This Global Hand Washing Day, Dettol aims to engage children all over Pakistan to send soap to children who don't have access to it.

With its campaign Letter for Life, Dettol is inviting children to send letters made of soap to students in under-privileged areas of Pakistan, creating awareness about handwashing and how it can break the chain of infection.

Students from 100 urban schools are participating in this fun and inexpensive activity of making soap letters and sending them to students based in rural schools.

Every letter delivered to the students would have a personalised message, and serve as a reminder for them to wash hands with soap and to protect themselves.

Your kids can also send soap in the form of a letter to countless children across Pakistan and help them live healthier lives.

These soap letters can easily be made at home as well. Here is how you can make it with your kids:

  1. Take a plain sheet of paper and fold it in half.

  2. Leave the right side of the sheet blank, and write your message on the left side.

  3. Pour liquid handwash over the right side of the paper generously and spread it evenly with your hands or a piece of cardboard.

  4. Let the soap dry.

  5. Fold the letter, put it in an envelope and seal it.

  6. Mail the letter to any of these schools in Sargodha and Narowal.

More details and step-by-step information on making these special letters is available here.

Apart from this initiative, Dettol is also building easily accessible handwashing facilities in over 100 rural schools across Pakistan, and they plan to expand to 1,000 schools by the end of next year.

Dettol's official spokesperson Shaniera Akram and Adnan Siddiqui also made these letters with students.

Global Handwashing Day is an annual global advocacy day celebrated on October 15 and is dedicated to creating awareness about the importance of handwashing with soap through creative ways. Washing hands is an easy, effective, and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives each year.

Dettol will be celebrating Global Handwashing Day in Pakistan on 15th October 2017, and is reaching out to rural schools to educate them about the importance of hand washing and a germ-free environment.
