LAHORE: Aug 22: Sikandar Khan of Lahore established eight new records in the Punjab Inter-District Age Group swimming championship which was held at Rabwa by Jhang District Swimming Association, according to a message received on Friday.

Around 150 swimmers of Lahore, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Bahawalpur and Jhang districts participated in the two- day competition in which the contest in Under-10, 12, 15 and 18 were held.

Sikandar’s first record was in the Under-18 event in the 50m freestyle with timings of 26.48 secs improving the previous record of 28.43 seconds held by Faraan Ahmad Irfan.

He went on to better the record in 100m freestyle when clocking one minute 00.50 seconds, shattering another previous record of Irfan of one minute 06.62 second.

In 200m freestyle, Sikandar went to break the third record, timing two minutes 15.95 second to better the previous record set by Mansoor Ali Khan who clocked two minutes 26.65 seconds.

Sikander further improved records in 100m and 200m breaststroke with new timings of one minute 19.46 and two minutes 57.38 seconds, respectively.

He gave a sterling performance by improving 50 m butterfly record by clocking 29.07 sec against the existing record of 32.05 second held by Atif Shafiq of Faisalabad and in 100m butterfly returning the time of one minute 6.56 second as against previous record of one minute 16.56 seconds.

He also improved 200m individual medley record by clocking two minutes 36.59 seconds. Previous record of two minutes 49.26 was held by Usman Javed of Lahore.

In total he won 10 medals —eight gold in individual events and two in relay events.

Another promising and upcoming young swimmer, Usman Javed, gave encouraging performance by winning gold medals in 100m backstroke with timings of one minute 19.90 seconds and in 200m with timings of two minute 58.33 seconds.

He was close second to Sikandar in 50, 100, 200m freestyle events and 50, 100m butterfly events. He also won four gold medals and six silver medals in different events.
