No-trust: two UC Nazims lose posts

Published August 23, 2003

OKARA, Aug 22: The Naib Nazims of the union councils 37 and 40, Renala Khurd, were removed from their offices after a no- trust move against them was approved here on Friday.

Tehsil Nazim Chaudhry Waheeduddin presented the move against Chaudhry Aslam Javed (UC 37) and Maqbool Ahmad (UC 40) reportedly to counter a no-confidence move initiated against him by District Nazim Syed Sajjad Haider.

The voting for the move was scheduled to be held at the tehsil municipal administration hall on Friday, but it was cancelled as both the groups had been summoned to Lahore at the chief minister’s secretariat for reconciliation.

Meanwhile, the sacked Nazims (belonging to the group of the district Nazim) have decided to move against this illegal proceeding of the tehsil Nazim, who, according to the UC law secretary, had no legal authority to summon the UC meeting.

THEFT: Thieves decamped with cash, computer systems and other valuables worth Rs2.5 million from an outlet of a milk distribution company on the night between Thursday and Friday.

According to reports, Naveed Akram, the company’s employee, had left after locking up his store opposite the tehsil council building. At midnight, thieves took away cash and valuables worth Rs2.5 million.

A-Division police have registered a case and are investigating.
