ACE being overhauled

FAISALABAD, Aug 22: The Anti-Corruption Establishment will be made more active to eliminate the menace of corruption from the government departments.

This was claimed by Brig Aslam Ghumman (retired), who had served the ISI and recently appointed as director general of the organization, at a news conference here on Thursday.

He said laws were being amended for giving 20 per cent to 30 per cent share of the amount to those officers who would detect the scam.

Brig Ghumman said the ACE needed an overhaul to put it on the right track for achieving the goal of eradication of corruption from the government departments.

He claimed that the ACE has become a ‘show-piece’ in which officers were being accommodated on deputation as a ‘stopgap’ arrangement to remain on a particular station. After completing the tenure, they used to exert pressure to remain on the same post again. This practice has made the establishment ineffective and a burden on government treasury, he added.

He said the ACE lacked infrastructure, staff, funds and sense of direction to deliver the goods. A summary had been prepared seeking powers to make the ACE an effective organization. Credentials of the existing staff were being checked minutely and incompetent and officials having bad repute would be removed from the organization.

Meanwhile, Brig Ghumman announced Rs10,000 cash award for Head Constable Hamid Ali who refused to be bribed and arrested proclaimed offender Niaz Ahmad from Okara, while additional director Rai Amin announced Rs1,000 each cash award for constables Muhammad Akram and Habib Ahmad who were the members of the team which arrested him.
