KARACHI, Jan 5: An acute shortage of water has been persisting in many areas of the city for the past one week.

The hard-hit areas include Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s blocks 13-D-1 and 13-D-2, parts of Shah Faisal Colony, Malir, Khokhrapar, green-belt area of PECHS Block-2, Mithadar, Kharadar, deficient pockets of Lyari and North Karachi’s sectors 5A-1, 5A-2, 11-C-2 and 11-C-3.

People residing in the worst-affected blocks of Gulshan-i-Iqbal complained that they had received scant supply only once during the past one week, but the KWSB’s officials concerned had not yet succeeded in restoring normal and uninterrupted supply to their localities. Now they were left with no choice but to buy private tankers at exorbitant prices.

Attributing the cause of the persisting water shortage in certain blocks of Gulshan to the sudden change in water supply schedule, sources at the KWSB claimed that those responsible for supplying water to these localities did not even bother to intimate about the change of water supply timings to the Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s executive engineer.
