RAWALPINDI, Aug 21: One person was shot dead while a steel mill owner was deprived of millions of rupees on Thursday, police said.
In the first incident, Zahid Hussain, a resident of Harley street, was shot dead at his grocery shop in Lalkurti.
The police said a person entered the shop and opened fire on Zahid before escaping from the scene. He received a bullet on the right side of his neck. He was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital where he died. The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.
In another incident, two robbers armed with klashnikov and pistol intercepted Mushtaq Ahmed’s car (IDK-2726), owner of a steel mill, and held him at gunpoint along with his driver, Mohammad Arshad. However, they shot and injured the driver when he tried overpower them. The robbers then snatched Rs1,200,000 cash from them in I-9/3 before escaping. The injured driver was shifted to Holy Family Hospital where he is said to be in critical condition.
VEHICLES LIFTED: Six vehicles were lifted in separate incidents, police said on Thursday.
Qadeer Ahmed Khan’s Suzuki car (RIY-4626) was lifted from outside his house in the jurisdiction of New Town police station. Similarly, some persons broke into the garage of Safeer Ahmed and escaped with his pick-up (DR-7997).
Mansoor Khalid lodged an FIR with the cantonment police, saying he had parked his motorcycle (RIW-3337) in front of a bakery on Haider Road from where it went missing.
Syed Ali Khan’s motorcycle (RIX-1568) was stolen from outside the UBL Bank, Saddar branch in the jurisdiction of Cantonment police station.
Mohammad Arshad’s motorcycle (RIX-4243) was lifted from outside an internet club at Teli Mohallah in the jurisdiction of Waris Khan police, while Mohammad Ayub’s motorcycle (GAL-3532) was stolen from outside his house in the jurisdiction of Wah Cantonment.
OUR STAFF REPORTER ADDS: A seven-year-old boy, who had been missing since Wednesday, was found dead in a water tank of an under-construction building in G-10/1 on Thursday, police said. Abdul Kareem, a Somalian national, had gone to a religious seminary for tuition, but did not return home.
On Thursday, Omer, the brother of the boy, informed the police that Abdul Kareem’s body was lying in a water tank of an under-construction sport complex. He said he was sitting in a restaurant near the complex, when a taxi driver indicated that a body was lying in the tank. When Omer went to the place he identified the body as his brother’s, the police said.
