GWADAR: A Pakistani national was killed when Iranian border force opened fire on a vehicle near the Tump area of Kech district on Wednesday.

Officials said the incident happened when a pick-up carrying two people was passing through the border area in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Iranian forces opened fire on the vehicle, injuring both the driver and the passenger.

On being alerted, Levies and Frontier Corps personnel rushed to the site and shifted the victims to a nearby health facility. However, the pick-up driver succumbed to injuries.

The reason why Iranian forces targeted the pick-up could not be immediately ascertained. The local administration lodged a protest with Iranian border authorities after the incident.

Levies officials said the authorities concerned in Quetta had been informed about the incident.
