GUJRANWALA: Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Regional Director Muhammad Ilyas Gill registered separate cases against Sialkot Forest District Officer (DO) Rehan Khan and revenue department official Amjad Farooq on Monday.

In an application to the ACE director, Saqib Aqeel claimed he had submitted a written request to the DO for a no-objection certificate (NOC) for establishing a petrol pump.

Aqeel claimed that Rehan directed him to deposit an official fee of Rs20,000 in a bank. The DO then demanded bribe to issue the NOC and when Aqeel refused, he was asked by the officer to deposit an additional Rs100,000 in the bank.

Deputy Director (Investigation) Hasan Raza completed his investigation and found Rehan Khan guilty of misusing authority. Moreover, Saima Sharif, a resident of Aroop Town, submitted an application to the ACE and claimed that revenue official Amjad Farooq had sold her property using fake documents. Assistant Director (Investigation) Asif Noor found the patwari guilty.

CORRUPTION: Punjab Anti-Corruption Director General (DG) retired Brig Muzaffar Ali Ranjha took notice of alleged corruption by government officers serving in Gujranwala, Narowal, Sialkot, Gujarat, Mandi Bahauddin and Hafizabad districts.

The DG ordered the regional technical wing and the provincial monitoring wing to monitor 254 high-profile corruption cases. He issued these orders after news related to the alleged corruption was published in the media. Investigating officers were directed to complete their probes in a given timeframe.

Out of 234 inquiries and 20 cases registered, most were related to officers and contractors from highway, revenue, buildings, tehsil municipal administrations, local government, Gujranwala Development Authority, Water and Sanitation Agency, public health engineering, housing, city district government, excise and taxation, district accounts office, transport, health and education departments.

BOY THRASHED: Several PML-N workers allegedly thrashed a boy in Rehmatabad on Monday.

The boy was identified as Ejaz and shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital. Police registered a case after receiving a written application from Ejaz’s family.

While speaking to the media, Ejaz claimed he was assaulted by workers of the PML-N.
