Let these desi celebrities show you how to silence Mahira haters

At a loss for words? Here are a few different ways to answer to trolls
23 Sep, 2017

After a photograph of Mahira Khan and Ranbir Kapoor surfaced two days ago, some people have been having a field day slamming the Pakistani actress for being caught smoking on camera.

Internet trolls have also begun shaming Mahira for wearing a dress and fraternising with an Indian actor.

Thankfully, the film fraternity in Pakistan and a few kindred souls across the border have jumped in to defend Mahira. Some used humour to deflect criticism, others took a logical approach.

As a whole, these celebrities can teach us a thing or two about responded to trolls. Need a lesson? Read on.

1) Pull an Osman Khalid Butt and use sarcasm to expose double standards

2) Try Hamza Ali Abbasi's trick and apply logic to disprove wacky theories

3) Join Ali Zafar in urging people to reconnect with basic human values

4) Send important reminders like Humaima Malick who said that celebrities are humans too

5) Follow Momina Mustehsan's more direct approach and tell people to just mind their own business

6) Be like the Hocane sisters and simply lend a kind word to Mahira (ignore the haters)

While social media provides freedom of expression it needs to be tempered (by the one who is expressing) with logic or atleast common sense. Mahira looks and acts like a senible artist. We can discuss and critisize her performance in a play or a movie. Who are we to discuss if she is chilling out with a coworker. We know smoking is injurious to health but she is not advertising it. Why should we snatch privacy of a celebrity and make vulgar comments?

Mahira! It's your life and you have all the right to live as you deemed appropriate for your self but your dignity, culture, tradition, family values and most importantly religious values must drive your desires being well educated, mature and a married woman.

Pakistani celebrities need to remember that they are the ambassadors of Pakistan . THeir appearance and action should be representative of Pakistani culture and values. It's not about judging some one . When you are a celebrity , people look up to you.

Give her a break. She is an actress. Maybe she is playing a ten dollar street worker off-broadway these days.

Well, double standard we have. What if the gender of celebrities were Male Pak and Female Indian Celebrities. Then all the comments would've been reversed on both side of border. Live and let live.

Mahira or for that matter Ranbir too are youth icons. People idolize them. When they turn up in public, smoking like that, it brings an x factor to smoking. Something that will entice the youth bringing this health hazard to them. I am all for freedom and personal rights, but as public icons these two and various others have a responsibility towards our collective societies of India and Pakistan to make sure we don't sensationalize a bad habit.

Actors and actress must realize they are public figures and what ever they do and say follows by their fans and views, they can influence a lot of people so they should act positively to play their role in the society.
