THIS is apropos your editorial ‘Police brutality’ (Sept 14) about the manhandling of teachers in Karachi who were protesting for their unpaid salaries. This is not the first instance of its kind as there exists thousands of such examples. A teacher is regarded as father of a nation and the police are there to secure and provide justice to the community.
Induction into the police department all across Pakistan is done on merit through NTS, PPSC and FPSC, which means the educated lot is joining the security department.
The chances of an educated police officer to lift his stick or hand on educators of the nation should be minimum. But if still the old police culture persists, then it must be thoroughly investigated and the guilty brought to book.
