HYDERABAD: Writer and journalist Habib Jatoi along with other social activists has demanded of the government, Supreme Court, Sindh High Court and army chief to help ensure safe and quick recovery of his 14-year-old son, who was allegedly picked up by law enforcement agencies from his house on July 12.

He was addressing a press conference held at the local press club on Monday, accompanied by Awami Jamhoori Party leader Mukhtiar Abbasi, People’s Servant Society chairman Jan Mohammad Junejo, social activist Imdad Chandio and others.

Mr Jatoi said his son Saifur Rehman, student of a college in Qasimabad, was allegedly picked up by the Rangers and other agencies from his house in Bhitai Town. Since then his whereabouts were not known, he said, adding that he approached the Bhitai Nagar police station, but they were reluctant to register the case and expressed their ignorance about his disappearance.

He said that a petition was filed in the Sindh High Court, Karachi, and the SHC ordered registration of a case on Aug 29. The case was registered with the police station concerned on Sept 14 against the accused law enforcement agencies on his own complaint.

He said he along with other family members and social activists would go on a token hunger strike from Sept 21 to 28 outside the local press club in protest against this injustice. He said his son had no links with any political, religious, nationalist or terror organisations.
