KARACHI, Aug 19: The Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) on Tuesday initiated digital mapping of the city’s power supply system through computer programming.

A KESC spokesman said the electronic mapping would include complete details of the high and low-tension at overhead and underground network, grid stations, sub-stations, PMTs, streetlights and complete update of the 1.7 million KESC customers with geographical location on the map.

At present, the city power supply system is being managed manually but on completion of the computerised mapping the power supply system will be monitored electronically, which will greatly help in maintaining stable power supply at the consumer-end, he added.

The spokesman said KESC MD had approved the project, which was started voluntarily by an executive engineer of the KESC.

Earlier, the KESC was planning to get such a map prepared commercially but could not do so because the price quoted for preparation of such a map was Rs30 million and due to paucity of funds the project was shelved. The KESC engineer will prepare it free of cost, he added.

The mapping work has been linked with the restructuring of the customers centres.—PPI
