LAHORE: The returning officer for NA-120 on Monday issued show-cause notices to parliamentarians of both the PML-N and the PTI and the deputy mayor for violating by-election code of conduct prescribed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

PML-N MNAs Capt Safdar, Talal Chaudhry, Ms Maiza Hameed and Shaista Pervaiz Malik while MPAs Saiful Malook Khokhar and Hina Pervaiz Butt were issued notices for participating in a Sept 10 election rally held for Begum Kulsoom Nawaz led by her daughter Maryam.

The RO issued similar notices to Punjab opposition leader Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed of the PTI and his party’s woman MPA Sadia Sohail for violation of the by-election code.

He directed them to refrain from their activities and submit their explanations within three days.

Through a separate notice, the RO directed Mr Safdar to submit his reply to a previous show-cause notice within 48 hours, otherwise, action under Article 204 of the Constitution would be initiated against him.

On a complaint of PTI candidate Dr Yasmin Rashid, the returning officer issued a notice to Deputy Mayor Mian Tariq for his involvement in the campaign of the PML-N candidate. The deputy mayor was directed to submit his reply within three days.
