KARACHI: Manzoor Husain, popularly known as Bholu ‘pahelwan’, was crowned as world champion by Kazi Fazlullah, West Pakistan Home Minister, at a coronation ceremony held at a local hotel last evening [Sept 10].
The golden crown which weighs 30 tolas was donated by Habib Bank to “Rustam-Zaman” Bholu for his unprecedented feat in the world of wrestling.
Speaking at the occasion, Home Minister Kazi Fazlullah paid rich tributes to the Bholu brothers for keeping the country’s flag high in the wrestling world.
He further said that they have achieved the wrestling prowess through hard work and the honour bestowed on Bholu was a great tribute to his fighting quality in the ring.
Kazi Fazlullah said that we should always be prepared to fight our enemy like the great Bholu. Later the Minister presented a gold medal to Aslam Pehalwan the “Untamed Lion of Pakistan” on his achievement during the recent tour of Britain. The medal was presented by Pakistan Tobacco Company.
[Meanwhile, as reported by agencies in Johannesburg,] the Johannesburg “Sunday Times” reported today from its correspondent in Salisbury that a convoy of South African Police armoured cars (probably Saracens) crossed on Friday night over the Beit bridge border into Rhodesia.
The correspondent said that the Rhodesian Premier, Ian Smith, has confirmed the arrival of Police armoured cars. But Smith would not comment on reports that South African Police spotter aircraft had also arrived at the Royal Rhodesian Air Force base at Thornhill, Felo, halfway between Salisbury and Bulawayo.
