KARACHI, Aug 18: Students at a debate contest on Monday held both politicians and military rulers responsible for the current situation in the country, and stressed for ethnic, political and religious harmony to transform the country into a welfare Islamic state.

The contest, on “Pakistan: A developed Country after 56 Years of Independence,” was organized by the Shaikh Zayed Islamic Centre, University of Karachi, as part of Independence Day celebrations.

The students said despite being a nuclear power and having strong army, the rulers failed to deliver the people and even after 56 years of independence, half of the local population was living below the poverty line.

On the other hand, some optimistic students described Pakistan as a strong, sovereign, independent and developed country, arguing that the country won distinctions in fields of sports, education, defence and various other fields.
