SAHIWAL, Aug 17: The Punjab government has decided to keep ‘dangerous’ prisoners in fetters in all prisons.
Sources told this correspondent on Sunday that the government had directed the superintendents of all jails in the province to forward the names of ‘dangerous’ prisoners to the district and sessions judges concerned for obtaining permission to keep them in fetters in prisons.
The ‘dangerous’ prisoners include under-trial accused having more than 10 cases against them and terrorists.
Sources said a directive had been issued to prepare the lists and forward it to the judges concerned within 24 hours.
It may be mentioned that the Supreme Court had ordered that no prisoner should be kept in chains or fetters in the jails.
ARRESTED: The district head of a political party was arrested on Sunday for his involvement in gas cylinders theft.
The owner of a chemical factory of Muzaffarabad had lodged a complaint with the police that some unidentified people took away a large number of gas cylinders.
The Muzaffarabad police raided the Railway Road store of Shafiq Ahmad Khan, the district president of Tehrik-i-Insaaf, and recovered 41 stolen gas cylinders from there.
The police arrested Mr Khan and took him to Multan.
Later, hundreds of Railway Road shopkeepers protested against the arrest of Shafiq Khan and demanded his immediate release. They said Shafiq Khan has been implicated in the theft case.
