GUJRANWALA, Aug 17: At least 60 drivers were arrested and driving licences of four of them were suspended while 64 public transport vehicles were impounded for the violation of traffic rules here on Sunday.

Traffic SP Intisar Hussain Jaffari said the traffic police launched a special driver against reckless drivers who were causing road accidents.

He said the traffic police issued around 562 challan tickets to vehicle crews and fined them Rs108,000 collectively.

He warned that the violation of traffic laws would not be tolerated at any cost while solid steps were being taken for the smooth flow of traffic in the city.

POs HELD: Sabzi Mandi police on Sunday claimed to have rounded up three proclaimed offenders involved in murder cases.

A police spokesman said that PO Ashiq had killed his wife Rasulan Bibi and two sons Azam and Liaquat on June 9 over some domestic issue. He took refuge at Sadiqabad.

He said another PO Tariq had slaughtered his aunt Nusrat Bibi on her refusal to marry her daughter with him, while PO Abu Baker had looted trader Abdul Rasheed and later killed him on resistance.

CAUGHT: Passersby caught two robbers on Sunday when they were fleeing after looting and injuring two motorcyclists on GT Road, Kamoki.

Hafiz Mubashar Ahmad of Mari Thakeran village was on the way to Kamoki by his motorcycle along with his friend Anser Mahmood. Near tehsil office, two armed robbers intercepted them and snatched from them cash, wristwatches and bike. The robbers shot and injured them for putting up resistance.

In the meantime, passersby chased the robbers on a jeep and caught both the robbers and later handed them over to police.

Police have registered a case against Aslam and Bashir Ahmad after retrieving the stolen bike and looted cash and valuables from their possession.

SI THRASHED: The National Highway and Motorway Police sub-inspector was beaten up and injured by passengers for challaning a bus on the GT Road, Eminabad.

According to a report, SI Zaboor Khan stopped the commuter bus and challaned it on the charge of overloading. But the passengers attacked him and injured him with clubs and kicks.

Police have registered a case against attackers and are investigating.

CRUSHED: A woman and her son-in-law were crushed to death on Sunday by a car on the GT Road near Sadhoki.

Arshad and Zarina Bibi were on their way to Lahore from Kamoki by a motorcycle when they were hit by the speeding car. Both of them died on the spot.

Police have arrested driver Shafiq of Rahwali and registered a case against him.
