MIRPURKHAS, Aug 16: The district council has demanded that the Sindh government should declare Mirpurkhas a calamity-affected area and suspended recovery of all taxes as the people of the district have suffered huge losses due to recent rains.

Speakers at Wednesday’s session of the district council asked the district government for anti-malaria and mosquito spray in the district on emergency basis.

They also demanded that union council Nazims should be allowed to participate in the relief distribution operation.

Mohammad Khan Samejo said that the government should make arrangements for adequate supply of medicines for livestock in the desert areas of the district.

He said that patients should be provided free of cost medicines in the emergency ward of the Mirpurkhas Civil Hospital and medicine quota of the hospital should be increased.

Mehboob Mari demanded that an action should be taken against the Khan SHO and other police officials who had forcibly taken signatures of the area union council members on documents of the police welfare schemes instead of getting the schemes approved by the UC as ordered by the DPO.

Khalid Pervez Sadaf said that in rural areas of the district, injections and other medicines meant for livestock were being used by human beings on the doctors’ prescription and demanded that the Sindh health authorities should take an action against such doctors.

To a question, health EDO Dr Fazal Ellahi Yousfani said that for the last several years, not a single lower grade official was recruited in the district health department and 232 lady health workers were appointed on contract basis.

Convener Nawab Yunus Talpur adjourned the meeting till Aug 18.

INQUIRY REPORT: The deputy district officer revenue, Aijaz-ul-Hassan Siddique, on Wednesday submitted inquiry report to DCO in connection with complaints against Nazim union council, Pithoro.
