KARACHI: Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto team registered an exciting 23-16 victory over Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah team in an exhibition basketball match played at the Arambagh court on Monday to commemorate Independence Day.

Rija Safdar caught the eye with her brisk scoring as she amassed 15 points. She was assisted by Ayesha who contributed six. Nazia and Asiya scored eight and four points respectively for the losers.

A large number of women accompanied by children and families turned up at the venue to watch the women’s match, second at the venue so far.

Chairman of the private schools management association Khalid Shah graced the women’s match and gave away the prizes. Meanwhile, Municipal Commissioner DMC South, Afaq Saeed, formally inaugurated the ongoing Independence Day basketball event.

Celebrated snooker players Mohammad Asif, Asjad Iqbal and Mohammad Sajjad also attended the ceremony as special guest. Earlier, a 150 foot long national flag was also hoisted at the venue. A special cake was also cut on the occasion.
